Ahh Spring time…. we love the warm weather but often dread exposing our bloated, sun-starved extremities and mid-sections when the weather dictates.
Winter’s freezing temperatures and darken skies hide a multitude of sins, seemingly encouraging indulgences, and laziness. Beneath the down puffer coat and fleece lined sweatshirt, under the spandex yoga pants and woolen socks, likely lives some neglected skin.
You are bloated and pale. Your upper arms are covered in tiny goose bumps that won’t go away, the fronts of your thighs are crepey and the backs have some unsightly cellulite. If any of these symptoms sound familiar, have no fear, you are not alone. Many people suffer from these common dermatological ailments, most of which can be treated at home and for little money.
Get your body, mind and soul ready for longer days, warmer weather and party season now and be the envy of all at the Memorial Day bar-b-que.
Follow these recipes for Spring DIY Spa treatments and you’ll be confidentally snap chatting with the trendsetters in no time.
1. Breath in spring with DIY Rose Water. Let go of winter’s past by taking some time to relax and unwind. The Ides of March has come and gone. It’s time to Carpe the Diem.
Begin by stimulating the senses. Put on a clean fresh robe. Dim the lights or light some candles. Turn on some subtle relaxing music. Spray some fresh rose water aromatherapy.
DIY Rose Water:
Fill 1 cup with fresh rose petals.
Pour 1 cup boiling water over petals and let steep for 10 minutes.
Chill in refrigerator and pour into a spray bottle.
2. Sloff off winter. Exfoliate with all natural DIY Brown Sugar Scrub
The key to buttery soft smooth skin is exfoliation. Physical exfoliants such as loofahs and scrubs work by sloffing off the dead skin, exposing new, soft skin.
For Baby soft skin, sloff off winter’s dry, dull, dead skin with this all natural DIY sugar scrub. It smells amazing, is easy to make and works wonders!
DIY Sugar Scrub:
Blend together the following ingredients:
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup oatmeal
1/2 coconut oil
1/2 olive oil
Massage the scrub all over your body paying special attention to elbows, knees, upper arms and thighs. Rinse with warm water and towel dry. Follow immediately with body lotion to lock in moisture.
3. Flush out excess fluids and say goodbye to swollen ankles, belly bloat and cellulite.
Run a warm bath, add 1 cup Epsom salt and a few drops of lavender essential oil. Soak for 15-20 minutes, no more, no less. This will allow ample time for the salt to draw out excess fluid without dehydrating you.
Sipping some chilled coconut water, a natural dieretic while soaking, helps to keep you hydrated and aids in detoxification.
4. Increase circulation- The foam roller method is a new technique being used to target stubborn cellulite. Lay on the floor with foam roller underneath you. Roll foward and backwards allowing the roller to massage your back, seat and legs. This stimulates the lymphatic system and increases circulation which helps chase away the dreaded lumps and bumps.
